As we've already seen throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not everyone survives every battle. And that's also the case in Thunderbolts*, the latest movie in the MCU that shows us just how high the stakes are in this world. In this case, the loss might have not been surprising to some eagle-eyed viewers who noticed a lot earlier, especially after the big Avengers: Doomsday announcement. Who dies in Thunderbolts*?
There's one character that not only wasn't announced to be returning in Avengers: Doomsday, but has also been missing in the majority of the trailers and other reveals for Thunderbolts*, so some fans had already guessed that something would happen to them. Still, it was surprising to see that Taskmaster AKA Antonia Dreykov be killed off super early in the film.
How does Taskmaster/Antonia Dreykov die in Thunderbolts*?
Valentina tries to get rid of all evidence of the work from O.X.E. Group, which obviously includes getting rid of anyone who has helped her along the way. She tricks Taskmaster, Ghost/Ava Starr, U.S. Agent/John Walker, and Yelena Belova to all arrive to a special secret base and eliminate each other. Yelena was told by Valentina to take down Ghost/Ava, U.S. Agent/Walker's target was Yelena, Taskmaster was to go up against Walker, and Ghost's had to go after Taskmaster.
All in the same room and thinking that their selected target is the enemy who is trying to go up against Valentina, they all start fighting each other. Ghost/Ava ultimately shoots Taskmaster/Antonia in the head, officially killing her. And if there was any chance of her surviving that, the room where they all eventually become trapped in and later free themselves from is actually an incinerator that burned everything inside. So, basically, her body is now just ashes so there's no chance of her coming back.
